Julie, Butterfly Lover
Hi - I'm Julie and I live in Opua, Northland, New Zealand.
Opua is in the far north of our country, where the weather is warm and ideal for butterflies.
I have been fascinated by butterflies for as long as I can remember.
At school we were encouraged to raise Monarch Butterflies, both at school and at home. We had some great teachers who allowed our little charges to climb all over the classrooms.
As an adult, nothing has changed for me and these days I raise Monarch Butterflies every season.
I think they're all quite amazing and I love each one fondly.
My butterfly interest doesn't stop at Monarchs, however.
Another favourite of mine is the Common Blue. Such tiny things flicking around the flowers and grasses. They are so small that I'm sure the majority of people don't even notice them.
I also have a new-found interest in Cabbage Whites - all due to the great lenses on my camera showing me their magnificent details at close range.
You won't be surprised to learn that, since taking up photography 3 years ago, my love of butterflies has increased even more.
