Yes, I always thought it was a butterfly because, unlike other moths in New Zealand, it flew around in the daytime and had very visible hairy black caterpillars that enjoyed eating great holes in my mother's prized Cineraria plants.
Since developing my interest in photography, my ability to take better and better photographs has increased my interest in the creatures I am photographing.
Me being me, I also want to know all the details about my subjects so imagine my surprise to learn that my favourite black butterfly was actually a moth.
