So much for my trying to sex it from the chrysalis markings - I thought it would be a female.
Never mind. He has emerged this morning - a perfect male.
That's 30 days from chrysalis to butterfly. That's a long time - almost like a Winter hibernation.

Butterfly and I have been outside on the flowers, doing a little photo shoot, and now he's hanging out on the deck happily clinging to a small piece of foam attached to a support I make for the butterflies drying their wings.
- Monarch egg hatched 29 May 2015.
- Formed its chrysalis 26 June 2015.
- Emerged as a magnificent male butterfly 28 July 2015.
This lovely butterfly has been a long time in the making, however it's totally perfect and quite beautiful. It emerged on a lovely sunny Winter's day to begin it's butterfly life.
