Rather they go into diapause and wait it out until warmer temperatures arrive, so they can mate again. Our Monarchs usually group together in small clusters, in the area they were born into, and settle in tall trees. It's a lovely sight when you find a cluster. During our Winters, even though it's cold we get a lot of sunny days, and so when the sun is out you can see Monarchs flying about.
There's usually a small cluster in a park near to where I live. One sunny day I went to photograph them and just loved watching the Monarchs enjoying the flowers in a Flame Tree.
It made a pretty picture against the bright blue sky with a few little white clouds.
Later I made a little 'creation' from my photos. Hope you enjoy it. 🦋🦋🦋
