Sometimes I find the best selections of butterflies can be found in quite unlikely places, such as the day we stopped on the side of the road so I could take a photo of a derelict barn in a field and there, right at my feet in the spindly dried grass, were many Common Blues.
One more likely location that's a favourite of mine is the Te Waimate Mission Station near Kerikeri. They maintain an old fashioned garden to the rear of the house, full of English flowers that really do attract the butterflies, bees and more.
There's also an historic church at the location, showing much history of the area. If you visit, your camera will be busy.
Here's a selection of photographs I have taken at the Te Waimate Mission Station.
It's a place I never tire of visiting.
