This is probably the earliest I have ever seen a butterfly out, in the early part of a season.
We are just coming into Spring, in New Zealand, and are still having quite cold days and a few sunny ones. Last Saturday was sunny and cool yet there was a pristine Raupraha's Copper Butterfly ( Lycaena salustius) flying and enjoying the nectar of lawn daisies in a park.
Being cooler, it meant the butterfly was not flying in the usual frenetic patterns they exhibit in the hot days of Summer, so reasonable photos were possible.
I love Coppers - such beautiful little butterflies - wing span 3.0 - 3.5cm
