Recently we went to Okoromai Bay, Whangaparaoa, Auckland, New Zealand, with the intention of photographing birds. Yes, I did get my bird photos however I also spotted these beauties in a straggly part of the area where Buttercups and Muehlenbeckia were growing.
Muehlenbeckia is the host plant for these butterflies so, wherever it is growing, you will surely find these butterflies. The buttercups were a real bonus, as they made for superb photography.
Maui's Copper (Lycaena edna) can be distinguished by the twin vein colourings on it's wings. 🦋
